You may have heard of a konjac sponge but you may not know exactly what they are or what they are used for; Konjac sponges are a wonderfully versatile and sometimes underrated award-winning eco beauty tool!

Here we speak to the creators of the original konjac sponges, The Konjac Sponge Co, to learn more about the product, discover how they can transform your routine and why every skin type can benefit from one!

What is Konjac?

A perennial plant native to Asia otherwise known as ‘The Konjac Potato’ or ‘Konnyaku’, it can often be found growing wild at very high altitudes. It’s a completely natural food source and is made up of 97% water. For centuries it has been used in a variety of ways due to its claimed health giving benefits, it’s low in calories, yet rich in vitamins, minerals and fibre goodness! Most commonly as a form of traditional medicine, food source, dieting aid and as a beauty product. In fact, the Konjac sponge was originally created to care for baby’s delicate skin!

The konjac we use in our handmade sponges is 100% pure and free from any added chemicals, additives, colourings and irritants. It’s important to us that our product is as close to its natural form as possible, in order to reap the benefits this incredible plant has to offer. The moisture rich plant fibre is blended with natural volcanic water and to create the effective sponge you all know and love. Each sponge has natural extracts added to benefit a variety of skin types and concerns.

The best part is our sponges are 100% biodegradable and completely sustainable. Once your sponge looks tired or starts to break down you can pop it in with your compost or food waste!

What do Konjac Sponge Co sponges do for the skin?

Due to how porous the konjac root is, it can hold a large volume of water, which in turn is a benefit to the skin.

These konjac sponges will deeply cleanse, gently exfoliate and refine the skin without irritation or stripping your skins natural moisture barrier, helping to leave you with a radiant complexion. They are suitable for the most sensitive of skin, even babies. Making it the ultimate beauty tool.

The sponges can be used alone with just water, or you can use them with your favourite cleanser; this will help your cleanser work harder, go further and last longer, win, win!
